The Army Inshore Sail Training Centre
The Army Inshore Sail Training Centre is on Baker Barracks on Thorney Island in Chichester harbour. This offers excellent sailing in the beautiful Chichester Harbour, or kitesurfing at a premier site off Hayling Island.
The AISTC is an approved RYA Training Centre affiliated to the ASA and those taking courses with us must be serving military (Regular and Reserve) ASA members due to the AISTC being in receipt of publicly funded support. Those holding other categories of ASA membership such as retired service personnel and families are able to take courses with the ASA affiliated Thorney Island Sailing Club situated right next door to the AISTC. The Centre also is also affiliated the the British Kitesports Association (BKSA) and the British Stand Up Paddleboard Association (BSUPA).
The AISTC delivers practical courses in dinghy sailing, windsurfing, winging, powerboating and kitesurfing from basic courses to instructor level. On light wind days we run Stand Up Paddleboard courses at no extra cost. Practical and shore-based courses go through to the Autumn. RYA Interactive Online courses are also available year round.
Accommodation is included with all courses if requested. Non-course bed space may be available for serving individuals or units at £20 per night (subject to availability) and £30 for non-serving.
